The Socials committee is in charge of some of Rice's most popular social events.  Our main three include: Screw-Yer-Roommate, Esperanza, and Crush Party.  Our socials committee also sponsors Barber Days in the RMC.

Screw-Your-Roommate:Screw09

For this event, students set-up blind dates for their roommates and select a theme
for them to dress up as.  The roommates will then dress up and meet at Willy’s Statue on the designated night.  Here is the fun part, the students will then have to find their blind date based on whatever they are dressed up as.  For example, you will set your roommate up with a friend from Brown.  You will talk to the person’s roommate from Brown and agree to dress your roommates up as Beauty & the Beast.  Your roommate (Beauty) and their secret date (Beast) will then have to find each other in the Quad.  Typically, students will then go out on group dinner dates.

Crush

Crush Party:

Traditionally held in Willy's Pub during the week of Valentines Day, Crush Party is an event in which students fill out a questionnaire and in turn, RPC returns the results at pub with the best and worst matches among all who participated.

 Esperanza:

Esperanza 1

Esperanza is the annual Homecoming dance.  The event is held typically in the first or second week of November and is the only annual formal dance.  Esperanza is traditionally held off campus; past venues include: NASA (2005), the Aquarium (2006), and Minute Maid Park (2007).  Last year, RPC had the rare opportunity to host the event on-campus as part of the Centennial Campaign Kick-Off.  Utilizing the grand tent that was erected between the Baker Institute and Jones School of Management, RPC held the most successful Esperanza yet with 1,000 attendees.  Esperanza this year will be held Friday, November 13th at the Houston Health Museum.

Assassins:

Everyone signs up and gets a target, the goal is to shoot your target with a water gun.  After you shoot your target you then adopt their target and on it continues.  The person with the most “kills” wins the game.  Assassins is typically held late in the spring semester.
