Rice Nights

Rice Night at the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston.

Passport to Houston provides the unique opportunity for Rice students to experience the variety of cultural offers of the city we live in.  Every semester, a variety of events from musicals to ballet, the opera to the symphony are chosen. Students from every college and the Graduate Student Association can receive free tickets, and attend a free reception with appetizers and beverages before or after the performance. The entire experience is provided to students without cost, and is meant to broaden the cultural horizons of our diverse community.

Contact your Passport to Houston committee representative for details on the free ticket distribution process. Facebook events will be created for each Rice Night to make it easier for students to keep track of the events they wish to attend, so be sure to join the
Passport to Houston Facebook Fan Page.

Spring 2013 Rice Nights

Thursday February 14th,  8pm, Jones Hall, Houston Symphony

The first is Thursday February 14th (yes, Valentine’s Day) where we are attending Rice Night at the Symphony.  We will be hearing Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, a score based on the ill-fated lovers.  Following the concert will be a themed dessert reception and hopefully some time with the maestro.  The concert is in Jones Hall at the Wortham Center at 8pm.

Friday March 15th, 7:30pm, Brown Theater, Houston Ballet

The second is Friday March 15th, Rice Night at the Ballet.  We are seeing the Rite of Spring, celebrating its 100th anniversary!  Written in Russia, set in Paris, this revolutionary piece of its time will be sure to impress both musically and visually.  Following the performance will be a reception with Hors d’oeuvres.   The show will be in Brown Theater at the Wortham Center at 7:30pm.

Friday April 5th, 7:05pm, Toyota Center, Houston Aeros

The final night is Friday April 5th, Rice Night with the Houston Aeros.  The students are attempting to encourage the Passport to Houston program to be more male-friendly programming and wanted to include a sporting event to promote attendance among different social groups.  To make the experience more educational, following the game the students will have a reception with players who will discuss aiming high and working hard for your goals, and team trainers to discuss medical aspects of sports injuries.  The game is held in the Toyota Center and starts at 7:05pm.
